    Functions of APSC

    Government of Assam consults APSC In all matters relating to the recruitment of civil services and other posts of the Government as per Article 320, Part XIV of the Constitution of India. The Assam Public Service Commission discharges the duties and functions as specified in its Regulations. The main functions and duties of the APSC are:

    • APSC recommends candidates for Direct Recruitment to the various services of the State of Assam.
    • APSC acts as an advisory body to the Government of Assam on the principles to be followed to assess the suitability of the officers for promotion.
    • APSC acts as an advisory body to the Govt. of Assam on any disciplinary matters affecting the Assam Government servant within the purview of the Commission;
    • APSC act as an advisory body to the Govt. of Assam on all matters relating to framing of Draft Service Rules or Recruitment Rules of various departments of the Government;
    • APSC act as an advisory body to the Govt. of Assam relating to the method of recruitment to Civil Services;
    • APSC act as an advisory body to the Govt. of Assam on matters relating to protection and fixation of pay, in respect of Government servants, who were initially appointed as per the recommendation of the Commission;
    • APSC conducts Departmental examinations for Government services.

    What is APSC CCE recruitment?

    Assam Public Service Commission (Combined Competitive Examination) is the examination to select suitable candidates for various Assam Government job openings.

    Does APSC CCE examination is conducted every year?

    Yes. The combined competitive examination (CCE) is conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) every year to select suitable candidates for Assam Government jobs.

    Eligibility Criteria and the age limit for appearing in the APSC CCE?

    The candidate must be a permanent resident of Assam.

    The candidate should posses a graduate degree in any stream from a recognized university.

    The age will be calculated as on 1st January of the year on which the advertisement of the combined competitive examination is published by the APSC.

    What is the selection process for APSC CCE?

    The APSC CCE selection is a two-step process. They are:

    1. Preliminary Examination and
    2. Main Examination followed by Interview.

    Candidates who clears the preliminary examination must appear for the main examination. The shortlisted candidates from the main examination are called for interview for final selection.

    The preliminary examination for APSC CCE consists of two (2) papers of General Studies.

    The main written examination consists of eight (8) papers of essay and objective type with limited words and two (2) language papers in the level of class X (qualifying only). The details of the examination are as under:

    1. Candidates are advised to submit only one application. In-case a candidate submits more than one application, the application with the higher RID, complete with all aspects would be considered by the APSC.
    2. Candidates already employed in any form of Government service are required to submit an undertaking that they have informed in writing their Head of Office/Department that they have applied for the examination.
    3. In case of a communication received from the current Government department by the APSC withholding permission to the candidate for appearing in the examination, their application is liable to be rejected/ candidature is liable to be cancelled.

    Salary of APSC Jobs | Pay structure of Assam Govt. Employees

    The 7th Assam Pay and Productivity Pay Commission was constituted by the Government of Assam to recommend necessary changes in the pay structure of the state government employees. The Commission submitted its report in November 2016, with recommendations covering issues related to the pay structure, allowances and pension related matters.

    The Commission’s report was accepted by the Assam Government with some modifications. The minimum basic pay is fixed at Rs.15900 and the maximum basic pay is Rs.130000. In addition to the basic and grade pay, Government of Assam employees are also entitled to other benefits such as Dearness Allowance, Travel Allowance, Medical Allowance and House Rent Allowance.

    The new pay structure of 5 running Pay Bands and corresponding Grade Pay of Assam Government employees are as follows:

    APSC Selection process for Direct Recruitment

    The selection process of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) for direct recruitment starts as soon as the Commission receives requisition from the concerned appointing authorities of the state government by issuing advertisements.

    The selection process is carried out as per the concerned Service Rules and hence it varies from service to service. The two main types of selection procedures for direct recruitment followed by APSC are:

    1.         Written examination followed by Interview based on syllabus recorded in the Service Rules concerned;

    2.         Through Interview only.

    In cases, where the number of candidates is very high in comparison to the number of posts, the commission at its discretion may conduct a screening test to minimize the number of candidates proportionally.

    After completion of the selection procedures, a recommendation list is prepared based on the performances of the candidates. The reservation rules in force are given due diligence and the list is sent to the appointing authority.

    Departmental Examinations conducted by APSC

    The APSC conducts Departmental Examinations for different categories of Govt. officers including All India Service Officers serving under the Govt every six month. The details of these examinations are published in the official website as well as in all leading newspapers of Assam.
