Cochin Shipyard Limited is a company fully owned Govt of India and was incorporated in the year 1972. Technical collaboration with M/s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (M.H.I), Japan was done for the design and construction of the first phase of the yard facility.

Flagging off its shipbuilding operations in 1978 and ship repair in 1981, the Cochin yard commenced the Marine Engineering Training in 1993. CSL added Offshore Upgradation to its repository in 1999. As of today, CSL is the forerunner in the Indian Shipbuilding as well as Shiprepair industry.

CSL has secured orders for shipbuilding from Europe & Middle East. CSL has the distinction of being nominated to build India’s first indigenous Air Defense Ship. The Cochin Shipyard Limited has the state of the art facility to build ships up to 1,10,000 DWT and can repair ships up to 1,25,000 DWT. The yard has already delivered two double hull Aframax tankers each of 95,000 DWT capacity.

CSL has developed adequate capabilities to handle complex and sophisticated repair jobs and has come a long way in ship repairing operations with repairs of all types of ships. This includes an upgrade of ships to be deployed in the oil exploration industry as well as maintenance, repairs and life extension of ships. CSL has offered these services to various organisations including Navy, Coast Guard, ONGC etc.

The Shipyard also trains 100 graduate engineers to marine engineers every year. There is a vast career scope of marine engineers both in India and abroad.

Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) has the distinction of being certified GreenCo silver rating by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) based on the performance evaluation under various parameters like energy efficiency, water conservation, renewable energy, greenhouse gas emission, etc. CSL is the first company in the shipping sector in India to be certified GreenCo.
